Behavior Therapy

Behavioral therapy is a term that describes a broad range of techniques used to change maladaptive behaviors¹. The goal is to reinforce desirable behaviors and eliminate unwanted ones. Rooted in the principles of behaviorism, a school of thought focused on the idea that we learn from our environment, this approach emerged during the early part of the 20th-century and became a dominant force in the field for many years. Unlike the types of therapy that are rooted in insight (such as psychoanalytic therapy and humanistic therapies), behavioral therapy is action-based. Because of this, behavioral therapy tends to be highly focused. The behavior itself is the problem and the goal is to teach people new behaviors to minimize or eliminate the issue. Sensory Integration Therapy

Sensory Integration Therapy (SIT) is a therapeutic approach that’s used to improve symptoms of sensory integration dysfunction. Developed in the 1970s by Dr. A. Jean Ayres, sensory integration is the Process though which we sense the world around us. we use our sensory organs to receive information and on a higher level, we organize it so we understand our surroundings and respond appropriately. To sum it all up! we perceive, organize, modulate and interpret sensory informations taken From: – Touch, Smell, vision, Hearing, Taste, vestibular and proprioceptive receptors.
SIT is the theory of sensory integration itself and a combination of two types of tools: assessment tools used to measure someone’s sensory integration and therapeutic tools used to improve symptoms of sensory dysfunction.
Sensory Intergration therapy is one technique used by occupational Therapist through fun and play-based activities, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST attempt to change how the brain reacts to touch, sound, sight and movement sometimes, one sensory area is over -responsive  (hyper responsive) while another needs more information (hypo responsive) we all have ways of for protecting ourselves from danger, but if a child’s tactile system is over responsive he/she may feel pain or discomfort touching something sticky.
Further, he/she may completely shut down and show behavioral issues.
With SIT, trained occupational therapists aim to help people improve their sensory symptoms by using various therapeutic tools in a clinical setting, with the goal of stimulating the senses through sensory input, challenging fine and gross motor planning, encouraging movement of the body, and developing new adaptive behaviors and responses. Occupational therapists are healthcare professionals who use a variety of therapeutic approaches to help people perform their daily tasks, both inside and outside of the home.
