it combined genes and environmental factors affecting brain development. Autism tends to run in families. Differences in the brain and nervous system are present from a very early age. The exact cause likely varies from person to person. More study is needed to better understand for this causes. But we do know autism is not caused by anything the parents did or didn't do.

Basically, autism doesn't always become more severe as someone grows older. But the signs of autism might shift with time, and individuals might face different difficulties as they get older.

The signs of autism generally start showing between ages 2 and 3. Some children show hints earlier, even in infancy. Others seem to develop typically at first but then regress and lose skills around 18 months old. Autism is considered a developmental disorder because differences emerge as the brain develops in early childhood. The average age of autism diagnosis is around 4 years old. But some milder cases may go unnoticed until school age. Early screening and detection can help children get support for autism as soon as possible.

Level 1 autism, also called high-functioning autism, Children with level 1 autism typically have average or above average intelligence. They can speak and care for themselves pretty well. But they still struggle with social interactions, have restricted interests, and indicate some repetitive behaviors.

No, autism is not considered a mental illness. It is a developmental disability and neurological difference that affects how the brain works.

Different therapies can help people with autism. Behavior therapy uses rewards to teach communication, social, and life skills. Speech, occupational, and physical therapies are also beneficial. Medicines may help with anxiety, ADHD or depression that sometimes occur with autism.

Yes, autism can be genetic. This means it can run in families. However, not everyone with a family history of autism will necessarily have it themselves. Scientists researching how genes affect autism and why some family members may or may no be inherit it. Overall, genetics play a role, but there is not only factor in whether someone develops autism.

At two years old, signs of autism might include limited eye contact, delayed speech, repetitive behaviors, and difficulty with social interaction. However, every child develops at their own pace, so it's important to consult with a pediatrician if you have problems. They can assess your child's development and provide guidance or referrals for further evaluation if needed.

While some can recognize autism in themselves, a professional evaluation gives an official diagnosis. This assessment is important to get the services and supports needed. But self-identifying as autistic is also valid.
